The True Meaning of Independence Day

Editor's Note: This is a bit late, but I felt it was important to share these July 4th thoughts with you all.

It's easy to let the barbeques, family, and friends take center stage on the 4th of July. I am most definitely a culprit; time and time again I have been guilty of losing my focus on what this great holiday is really about. Heck, even yesterday I found myself getting caught up in the summer hub-bub.

But beyond the bratwurst, burgers, and beer, the United States of America's Day of Independence comes down to this:

While truth, justice, and the American way may not yet be standards across the globe, each July 4th we are reminded that every one of us on this earth, pacifist and militant, Christian and Muslim, are really all the same, deep down inside. While we all display our affection in our own unique ways, Independence Day brings us a yearly heart-warming reminder that we all, as fellow human beings, love blowing crap up.

Below is my pictorial tribute to this terrific American tradition with such far-reaching meaning:

Remember: explosives are almost as good as liberty itself.

Disclaimer: Please please PLEASE note that the above is not meant in any way, shape, form, or coincidence to represent Muhammad in any manner - humorous, satirical, or otherwise.

Credits: Peter, Paul, and Mary lyrics (specifically Peter's) taken from here, believe it or not. Firework-lighting family played by Magnuts, crazed Arab militant played by a Barnyard Commando (sorry, it was only intense-looking action figure I had!). Special thanks to my friend Tim for getting me started on the Barnyard Commandos waaay back in the day.

Cool picture!
Even Superman has given up on the American way. Guess he is just a big bang too.

It's amazing how much fun one can have with action figures you thought you'd never play with again. :D

Carol, I'm not sure why, but I can't get that link to work.

Second time's a charm Carol, thanks. Certainly an interesting read. I'd probably have to agree with the scriptwriters that the "American way" rhetoric is a touch outdated

Ha! Again, this is fantastic. It makes me want to break out my old barnyard commandos. But I'm limited on the number of toys I can keep on display, and He-man and Star Wars have to have their place. Thanks for all the comments on my page! I'm hoping I can get this to work this time... I think it's not a technical problem so much as incompetence...

Oh, yep, just incompetence.
